Description:

"EXTENSION OF THE STONE BARRAGE WHICH SEPERATED THE WISLA SMIALA RIVER FROM THE PTASI RAJ LAKE IN GDANSK"

Investor:

Director of Maritime Office in Gdynia

The stone barrage which is being rebuilt will seperate the Wisla Smiala River from the Ptasi Raj Lake in Gdansk. It was built in the late nineteenth century (1886) and it is a natural border of reserve „Ptasi Raj”, which is a natural home of waterfowl and mud birds and a holiday destination of migratory birds.

The project of rebuilding of stone barrage was necessary, because of technical condition of 130 – year – old construction. The aim of the project was also to protect lake water from pollution caused by the failure of passing ships.

The basic objectives of the project:

  • raising the crown of the barrage to the altitude min, +1.50 m (currently approx. 0.70 m),
  • sealing the body of barrage to the altitude 0.80 m,
  • suppling the culverts which are located in the body of barrage in mechanical valve, tilting walkways and lightening.
